Corruption in Nigeria leads to problems in the nation.
Nigeria is a oil producing country, but very little oil money makes it back to the Nigerian people. Poverty is a huge problem in Nigeria. Corruption is not a recent phenomenon that pervades the Nigerian state. Corruption in Nigeria leads to the plundering of the nation and the educational system and the health care system collapsed.
Since the creation of modern public administration in the country, there have been cases of official misuse of resources for personal enrichment. The death of the general Sani Abacha in 1998 revealed the global nature of the corrupt administration. French investigations of bribes paid to government officials to ease the award of a gas plant construction in Nigeria revealed the global level of corruption in the country. In 2000, two years after the death of general Sani Abacha, a total of more than $1 billion US dollars belonging to the family and friends of Abacha were found in various accounts throughout Europe.
