The initiatives credited with saving over a billion people from starvation, involved:
- the development of high-yielding varieties of cereal grains,
- the expansion of irrigation infrastructure,
- the modernization of management techniques,
- the distribution of hybridized seeds,
- synthetic fertilizers, and
- pesticides to farmers.
